What to Expect

Discover Entebbe Botanical Garden and possibly a canoe trip at Lake Victoria. 3 nights at Murchison Falls National Park doing game drives, boat cruise and chimpanzee trekking. Visit Kibare National Park and chimpanzee trekking there. Proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with mountain gorilla trekking and then end your tour with Rwanda by trekking mountain gorillas and Golden Monkeys in the renowned Volcanoes National Park, a glimpse sightseeing of Kigali before your transfer to the airport for departure.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe, Uganda

Begin your adventure with a transfer to your hotel upon arrival in Entebbe. If time allows, explore the historic Entebbe Botanical Gardens, where you can enjoy a rich collection of flora and fauna, including various bird species and monkeys. The evening includes a welcome dinner with your Expedition Leader who will provide an orientation for the upcoming gorilla tour.

Day 2: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary / Murchison Falls National Park

Depart early for Murchison Falls National Park, making a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a crucial habitat for endangered rhinos. Continue to Murchison Falls, renowned for its powerful waterfalls and diverse ecosystems. Wildlife viewing may include elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and Nile crocodiles. Stay at a private bush camp, offering close proximity to wildlife.

Day 3: Wildlife Exploration in Murchison Falls

Embark on a private delta cruise in the Lake Albert Delta, an area known for its rich birdlife and scenic views. Follow up with an afternoon game drive seeking various mammals and birds, potentially spotting lions or leopards among others.

Day 4: Chimp Trekking in Budongo Forest / Nile Cruise

Visit Budongo Forest Reserve for a guided chimpanzee trekking experience. This forest is home to a significant chimp population and features some of Africa’s tallest mahogany trees. Later, enjoy another private cruise along the Nile, observing more wildlife and the historical site of Hemingway’s plane crash.

Days 5-6: Game Drives and Kibale National Park

After a final game drive in Murchison Falls, fly to Kibale National Park, known for its dense primate population, including chimpanzees. Engage in a chimpanzee trek with local experts and explore the surrounding wetland sanctuary.

Day 7: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Fly to the entrance of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a haven for mountain gorillas and other wildlife. This forest is also a prime bird-watching location with numerous endemic species.

Day 8 and 9: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi (2 gorilla treks)

Experience the highlight of the tour with two days of gorilla trekking. Navigate through the dense forest with expert guides to find and observe gorillas in their natural habitat. If possible, visit a local coffee co-op to learn about sustainable farming practices benefiting gorilla conservation.

Day 10: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

Travel to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, set amidst the Virunga Volcanoes. Check into a boutique lodge, ideally located for the next phase of gorilla trekking.

Days 11-12: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park (2 Gorilla treks)

Breakfast followed by a transfer to the Volcanoes National park headquarters. After morning briefings, embark on treks to observe habituated gorilla families in their natural habitat. Learn about conservation efforts and the impact of ecotourism on these endangered animals.

Day 13: Golden Monkey Trek and Departure

Breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and formalities in preparation of a trek to the endemic and playful golden monkeys. After your experience with golden monkeys return to the lodge for freshen up and lunch. Drive back to Kigali. Conclude your journey with a farewell dinner before your airport transfer for departure flight.
